Summary

This film was shot and roughly edited by a group of Nepali men from the Terai region as part of a participatory video project conducted by IWMI in 2013. It presents men's points of view on how male migration overseas has been affecting their livelihoods.

The film raises multiple intertwined issues on adaptation to climatic and societal change, where reduced rainfall, a poor quality of the education system in rural areas and the lack of non-farming opportunities have made distress migration the dominant adaptation option.

This participatory video project is part of a larger research on gender, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change, combining surveys, interviews and focus group discussions across Nepal, India and Bangladesh to understand the processes affecting men and women's adaptation.
