Western Nepal multiple use of water women scarcity
21 July 21
Nepal
Prem Kala B.K and her daughter Karisma B.K (from Dalit community ) cleans their clothes in summer spring near Bubai Rakha village in Gurans Rural Municipality in Dailekh district of Nepal. It takes half an hour of walk from their house to reach this place. The water source is only available in monsoon, during the dry season the spring also dries. It takes two hours of walk to reach a water spring during dry season. The family do not have their private rain water harvest system in their house. So the family has rented a “Ghaito” (rainwater harvest tank) of another neighbor for which they pay Rupese 3000 for one year. The family still face discrimination while using the common water spring due to their cast. The discrimination is punishable by law in Nepal.
