The Prince Albert II Foundation has supported more than 530 projects worldwide since its creation in 2006. Two years later, the Sovereign has decided to launch prizes to reward the commitment of personalities and organisations in favor of the preservation of planet in three priority action areas: limiting the effects of climate change, preserving biodiversity and managing water resources.
This year, the “Water” prize was awarded to the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) which is based in Colombo in Sri Lanka and has been developing scientific solutions for more than 35 years for the benefit of some of the poorest populations in the world. “IWMI works with smallholder farmers, offering them innovative solutions such as solar irrigation to increase their productivity,” was it said.
