Summary
India now has a total of 49 Ramsar sites covering an area of 10,93,636 hectares, the
highest in South Asia. On the morning of World Wetlands Day, February 2, it was
announced that Khijadia Wildlife Sanctuary in Gujarat and Bakhira Wildlife Sanctuary in
Uttar Pradesh have been added to the Ramsar site.
